History

Here it is...

Our History

Well Bob and i had been talking about it for years, but it really didn't go into action till after the first term of 9th grade, after i quit Latin class for the more lazy alternative of Graphic Arts.  There i met a very influencial person in the band.  It was the visionary Edwardo, who also sk8ed like me and Bob.  We worked on making t-shirts and crap, and got talking and found out that we both played guitar and listened to punk, like Nofx and Rancid and stuff. So i had been taping myself writing songs, and me and Ed would talk about writing songs and song ideas.  We thoroughly exploited Ed's mexican background to our advantage to form the bands true sound back in the day.  Adding to the attitude and humor we had songs about Ed having one leg(actually one full one and a stub, but hey), and our DIY attitude and our no rules, no authority approach to life.  So anyway, back to how the band was formed.  Me and Ed were talking and i was saying how I wanted to play guitar, since i already wrote all those songs like that, and how it would be easy for Ed to play bass since he could play guitar. Then there was only one thing left to do.  That same day, i told my best friend since we were 3 years old, Bob that he would be playing drums for our very own punk band.  So what we would do was bring our guitars to school to practice in the chorus room, while "channel one" occured every day.  Needless to say, we didn't get much better, but some people did say we sounded like Nirvana when we had to resort to acoustics.  But dispite constant ridicule and rude remarks, we continued with our mission to "Punk the World" and "Punk You".  We continued to sk8 and record demos, up and through summer. But once summer hit, Ed showed up to the first practice and then didn't show up the rest of the summer, making a reappearence later that fall.  That fall was when Jesse was to make his first appearence into the band.  And with that we had our new game plan, that for some reason still included Ed.  As most of you know, it was known as 50 Cent Haircut.  We did a lot of  Rutabaga Suicide originals, mixing it more with our then latest inspiration, Screeching Weasel.  We then acually created an acual sound of the band, which was described as a style very similiar to DC hardcore.  In this form to the day, we have played the most shows.  But as me and Jesse would jam more with different instruments, we formed a new vission, a better vission, and hopefully a better sounding vision.  Now our quest was to search for a new drummer and have Jesse on rythem guitar, me on lead, Bob on bass, and very soon Bobs brother Mike on drums. This possibly our most talented form, had a sound most closely related to Screeching Weasel. We were really kicking it, and recorded one cd like this.  After the cd was recorded, Jesse became illusive, and gained many new hobbies, leaving  the band.   The band got way better after that, but severilly missed Jesse's imput and skill, but we still continued.  We attempted to play 2 shows, which were both massive failures, resulting in destruction of equiptment, and not to mention mass embarrassment  infront of hundreds of people, but still we continued.  But soon Mike was to take a break to continue his further education, so he wouldn't be working in dial-tile the rest of his life.  So at that, Mike chose to leave the band for 6 months to be trained in some computer technical stuff, to leave Bob and I, alone in the bandroom once more.  So at that Bob and I went back to playing our timeless classic, only a lot better then originally.  We gradually built up more originals and developed our older material.  We then recorded an Ep in teh band room entitled "Shut-up", featuring what we thought woudl be our first hit.  We ended up playing many monthly shows at teh infamous Crash's Deli in Hanover, and gained a bassist, Phill from Espinine.  We continued playing shows and then recorded RS's first full length cd, and then opened for the River City Rebels.  Then we took a break to write new material which is when Mike and Jesse came back to the band, now we are back to a previous line-up, and our debut with this line up was April 12th, which went well,  We continued to take the scene by force, and expanded to playing 3 different states.  We then recorded another full length intitled "Have A Drink" in June, and later released it in November. Rutabaga Suicide still forged on through the harsh winter, coming across many stumbling blocks, including hectic college schedules, and effects of the American Justice system. Contrary to popular belief that the legends folded under pressure, they continued to play and write new material. A few line-up changes happened over this time, including the induction of Legendary guitarist Michael Black from the once great Trigger Finger. This made Jesse move to bass, while Bob was absent from the picture for legal purposes. Then Bob returned making the line-up complete and stronger than ever.....
